Name Changer trigger ban?

Post by Xaphan »

Is it possible that the Steam Name Changer could trigger a ban?
I didn't wanna test the Name Changer because of the rumor that it could get you VAC'ed?

Any info would be helpful, Thanks.

No. This indicates a hack that disables replication.

I do not know what this Name Changer thing does. But if it were the cause of that ban I would say its doing more than changing a name.

Conclusion, that person was cheating.

p.s., I know it seems odd that KAC would ban him for having "sv_consistency" set to "1". However, that is not what it should be as set by the server. The server is obviously setup with "sv_consistency" set to "0". What that ban tells me is that this person was using a cheat that was designed to try and bypass anti-cheats such as KAC by sending a false value or disabling replication.

I think it's pretty ignorant to jump to the conclusion that I was cheating without even testing it yourself.

http://didrole.com/tickrate_enabler/Tic ... er_0.1.rar
http://dblocker.didrole.com/DBlocker.rar

I had all of these installed when I joined the server, the only other way my game was modded was using my GUI.

The ban also did not happen until a few minutes after I had joined, if that helps. I'm not sure if this is because your anti cheat does checks in certain intervals. It may also be because one of the plugins didn't do whatever it did right away. Either way using this setup should produce the same results as I had, if not then I guess I'll just have to accept the ban.

Also I may or may not have had zblock also installed at the time, though I believe I did that later in the day.

Ok found the problem, If you place DBlocker.dll in addons it will trigger a ban.
Some sort of anti-cheat plugin... here is the url: http://dblocker.didrole.com/

I tested this and it did ban me(localhost).

An anti-cheat for servers, loaded on the client, no crap it could trigger a ban.
It forces sv_consistency on, both KAC and DBlocker did their job perfectly.

Why load a server plugin/addon on client. IF you got a ban you can only blame yourselfes.

Either way, a new update that VALVe intends to provide will soon remove that ability (client loading plugins). Thank you VALVe.

Is this one of the reasons your latest update was also put on hold?

Indeed. It would be better if I saved the method for later if LSS attempts to bypass VALVe's patch.
